A day to take note of May 27 is going to be a busy day so you may want to mark it on your calendar.

On that day there will be an antique car show and barbecue at Rainforth Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Admission is free.

Also on May 27 is the Woodville chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $13 and it takes place at Boates Farm, 432 Bligh Rd.

And that’s not all. The Scotian Gold Family Fun Day also takes place. It runs from noon until 5 p.m. It is open to everyone and free to attend. The Mission Outreach Committee of the Baptist Church recently met at Silvers’ Rest Home for their monthly meeting.

The program was on Mother’s Day. Music was provided by Frances Lowe of Aylesford and the program was presented by Mary Redden, Betty Woodworth and Marjorie Saunders.

Each resident received a homemade Mother’s Day card which was beautifull­y done by Redden and Woodworth. Refreshmen­ts were served and the next meeting will be June 14 for Father’s Day.

Thirteen family members recently met at the home of Gordon and Peggy Harris in celebratio­n of their son Tony’s birthday. It was a potluck/barbecue and enjoyed by all. The youngest member in the family, Bligh Crann, was in attendance.

There were seven tables (three five-handed) of 45s in play May 15 at the South Berwick Community Centre. Prize winners were first, Flora Reeves; second, Larry Coldwell; third, Arthur Salsman; fourth, Rupert Reeves; 50/50, Andrea Hale and the door prize went to Shirley Rogers.

Card parties will continue until the end of May.

Fourteen members of the Rebekah Lodge recently enjoyed dinner at the Driftwood. The group then met at St. Eudora Rebekah Lodge for the 111th anniversar­y.

Two sisters from the former Kentville Lodge attended and volunteers were invited to the celebratio­n.

Noble Grand Zillah Gaul welcomed all. Esther Chute, the eldest member, at age 105, was also in attendance.

The second eldest member, Marjorie Whitman, was unable to attend. She is now a resident of Mountain Lea Lodge. Also of note, Marjorie Saunders is the longest paid member.

Julie Cox gave the history of early Berwick and the lodge which was founded in 1907. A piano was donated in 1907 and they still have it in their possession. Cox also showed many artifacts they have, including the first key from 1890, which is now framed.

A memorial service for members who have passed away took place. This was done by Gladys

Cook, Jeanette Crawford and June King. Jim Huntley, of Centrevill­e, was in attendance and recognized for his volunteeri­sm at a Kentville Nursing Home.

Gaul and Patsy Hubley entertaine­d with some songs.

Also, a jewel presentati­on was made to Bernice Pinkerton for 15 years service. She also received a corsage. DDP June King received a corsage as did Marjorie Sanders for longest paying member. Gloria Cunningham was presented with a corsage. She was noble grand for 12 consecutiv­e years plus another year.

And, an anniversar­y cake and ice cream wrapped up the festivitie­s.
