Provincial bike race is this weekend in Annapolis County

Annapolis County’s annual Bike Week concludes with Bicycle Nova Scotia’s provincial championsh­ip road race, and organizers are hoping motorists will watch out for participan­ts.

The event is organized by Roadents Competitiv­e Cycling based in Brickton - organizers of ‘Tour de Keji,’ winner of Bicycle Nova Scotia’s Race of the Year award in 2017.

Routes:

- Groups 1 and 2: 93 km, Annapolis Royal to Middleton on Highway 1 and back to Annapolis Royal on Highway 201

- Groups 3 and 4: 46 km, Annapolis Royal to Bridgetown on Highway 1 and back to Annapolis Royal on Highway 201

- Group 5 (juniors): 21 km, Bridgetown to Annapolis Royal on Highway 201

* Start line at Municipal Building at 752 St. George Street, Annapolis Royal

9 a.m. - Registrati­on at Annapolis West Education Centre

10 a.m. - Welcome messages to cyclists by community representa­tives from Municipali­ty of the County of Annapolis; Town of Annapolis Royal; Village of Lawrenceto­wn; Town of Middleton

10:30 a.m. - First group starts (Municipal Building)

10:35 a.m. - Last group starts (Municipal Building)

11:45 a.m. - First riders cross finish line (Tom’s Pizzeria, Lequille)

1:45 p.m. - Last riders cross finish line (Tom’s Pizzeria, Lequille)

2 p.m. - Award ceremony (Municipal Building)

Bridgetown

11 a.m. - Junior group starts (End of the Line Pub) 11:10 a.m. - First race group arrives 11:25 a.m. - Last race group arrives * Two groups continue to Middleton * Other two groups turn down Queen Street to cross river

Lawrenceto­wn

11:30 a.m. - First race group arrives on Hwy 1

11:35 a.m. - Second race group arrives on Hwy 1

12:05 p.m. - First race group arrives on Hwy 201

12:15 p.m. - Second race group arrives on Hwy 201

* Feed zone on Highway 1 at exhibition grounds

* Feed zone on Highway 201 at Lunn’s Mill Brewery

* Both feed zones supported by volunteer residents of village

* Cyclists grab bananas on the fly for extra fuel
