Kentville hoops player commits to Mount Saint Vincent

-

A Kentville woman has added her name to the roster of Mount Saint Vincent’s basketball team.

Mount Saint Vincent University Women’s Basketball coach Mark Forward says he is planning for another great year with the addition of student-athlete Maria Rodrigues of Kentville on the 2018-19 roster.

Forward describes Rodrigues as “another legitimate outside shooter,” noting that “what makes her most dangerous is that she is also a willing passer when another teammate has a better scoring chance. As well, she brings a very strong work ethic to the gym and is dedicated to doing whatever it takes to win. We are extremely happy she has decided to be a Mystic for this upcoming season.”

Rodrigues will transfer to Mount Saint Vincent from Nipissing University where she played for the Women’s Basketball Team in 2017-18. In 2016-17 she played for the Champlain College Lennoxville Division 1 Women’s Basketball Team and was named the 2016 Tournament All-star at the Durham Lords Big 8 Classic Women’s Basketball Tournament (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association tournament). She has also played extensively as part of Nova Scotia provincial and school teams, including Horton High School.

“The Mystic women’s basketball program has a history of competing at the national level dating back many years and I am proud to become part of that tradition,” said Rodrigues. “I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the team and have a positive impact on the program. And I am looking forward to becoming a part of the broader Mount community as well.”

Rodrigues will pursue a bachelor of arts in English at the Mount this fall.
