Old friends making new memories
Digby County college friends reunite for 50-year reunion
In 1968 a group of Digby County teens started their first year of school at the Annapolis Regional Vocational School.
Many of them meeting each other for the first time, they never imagined still being friends 50 years later.
The group of friends tries to meet each year to reminisce about old memories.
“We were just a bunch of teenagers enjoying the moment. I don’t think we ever thought about the future that much,” says Rikki Clements.

Five of the women lived in a boarding house in Middleton while going to the school and one thing
that they all remember enjoying while they lived there was breakfast – spaghetti on toast.
“We always had good suppers though, it was just breakfast we didn’t like,” says Ryan.
Although it was 50 years ago, the women still remember their college years as if they were yesterday.
“We had so much freedom for the first time in our lives, I think that’s why we got along so well,” says Macalpine.
The women spoke with the school about having a reunion for the entire class but unfortunately never heard back from any organizers. They still see some of their other classmates around town and at events, but they haven’t stayed in touch with others like they have with their group.
“Everyone scattered around after school. It’s so hard to believe it was 50 years ago,” says Maclaren.
They plan to continue meeting every year to share memories and check up on each other.
“We’re just some old friends making new memories,” says Hudson.
