Invitational tournament a success – despite Mother Nature

-

Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts, the Central Kings High School Gators Senior Boys Basketball team were able to complete their eight-team invitational basketball tournament last weekend.

Weather conditions forced the tournament to move from a Friday to Saturday format to a Saturday to Sunday event. Play started Saturday morning with the CK Gators defeating the West Kings High School Wolverines 78-57 in quarterfinal play. Alex Parnell led the Gator attack with 30 points and earned Player of the Game honours.

In the other quarterfinal matches, it was Hants North over NEKEC, Simonds High of Saint John, N.B. over Millwood High School and Lock Port High School over Amherst High.

The opening win put the Gators into the tournament semi-final where they faced Hants North High School. The game was a real back-and-forth battle with many lead changes but a third quarter letdown put the Gators behind and chasing the game. They ended up with 61-47 loss. Lance Keddy was player of the game for the Gators with a 15-point effort. Simonds High was the other semifinal winner over Lockport.

On Sunday, the Gators played in the third-place game, losing another hard fought battle to Lockport High school by a score of 56-49.

The final standings in the tournament were:

1st Place - Simonds High School 2nd Place - Hants North High School

3rd place - Lockport High School 4th place - Central Kings Rural High School

5th place

School

6th place - NEKEC

7th place - Amherst Regional High School

8th place - West Kings District High School

The Gators would to extend a heartfelt thank you to parents, staff at CK and tournament sponsors and supporters for their help in making the tournament a tremendous success. - Millwood High
