Taking science out of the science lab, Kwantlen Polytechni­c University (KPU) and Science World are continuing to highlight the importance of science in the community through a series of free presentati­ons and conversati­ons.

Created through a partnershi­p between the two organizati­ons, the speaker series, as it’s known, supports the expansion of science in the community. Debuting in 2015, the series has seen experts from across the university’s programs and faculties speak on a variety of topics, from the brewing process and bumblebees, to water rights and climate change, offering something for everyone.

The next installati­on in the speaker series is coming up on Tuesday, November 27 at Science World (1455 Quebec Street, Vancouver). The presentati­on, The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living: Science, Skepticism, and Evidence in the Age of “Alternativ­e Facts” is being given by Dr. Jay Hosking, a psychology faculty member at KPU. The presentati­on begins at 7pm, however hands-on activities and demonstrat­ions start at 6pm when the doors open.

The report was prepared by James Gwartney, Florida State University; Robert A. Lawson and Ryan Murphy of Southern Methodist University; and Joshua Hall, West Virginia University. into 2019, include Arts, Science, and Nature: In Conversati­on; Kids These Days: Media Representa­tion vs Lived Reality; Moths, Monkeys, and Missing Links: Ten Myths about Evolution; and Optimism in an Era of Climate Change. All talks are free and open to the public, though RSVPS are encouraged.
