Trades, Tech and Talk
The trades and technology sector in British Columbia is booming. The need for qualified tradespeople remains, with the BC Labour Market Outlook estimating that nearly 107,000 job openings in the province over the next decade, will be in trades, transport, equipment operation, and related fields. Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) offers a mix of trades and technology programs, ranging in length from a few weeks to several months, at their dedicated trades and tech campus in Cloverdale. Individuals interested in learning more about these in-demand careers are invited to find out more in person at the upcoming KPU Tech Open House on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 3-7pm. Boasting a range of workshops, a farrier barn, an auto shop, and space dedicated to developing hands-on, applied skills, the campus is well-equipped to help students develop the expertise necessary for success in the trades. Guests at the open house are invited to take a guided campus tour and explore first-hand while connecting with current students and faculty. Many of the trades and technology programs offered by KPU, including appliance servicing, automotive servicing, carpentry, plumbing and more, allow students to go on to pursue their Red Seal endorsement—the standard of excellence in the trades in Canada. In addition, KPU has launched a mechatronics diploma program. Combining technology, engineering, and electronics, the program is focused on preparing students for a range of evolving positions in manufacturing, crossing industries like agriculture, biotechnology, and telecommunications.
Ready to apply? You can! Representatives from KPU’S Future Students’ Office will be available at the open house to assist prospective students throughout the application process and answer questions. Plus, prospective students are eligible to win a waiver for free tuition!
