NDP budget 2020 abandons opportunity for Abbotsford

Abbotsford: BC Liberal candidate Bruce Banman is joining BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson in calling out John Horgan and the NDP for presenting yet another empty budget with no plan to grow the economy or help people get ahead in Abbotsford. “Abbotsford residents have, once again, been let down by John Horgan and the NDP’S budget,” said Banman. “Our community has been left out of important investments ranging from the widening of Highway One and overcrowding at UFV to addressing the shortage of doctors and challenges facing our farmers. This budget does nothing to make life easier or more affordable for Abbotsford South residents.” Under John Horgan, taxes are up $5.7 billion and will go up $8.8 billion next year — with the budget surplus shrinking by the day. The NDP have increased spending $11.4 billion this year and another $14.95 billon next year.

“On top of letting down Abbotsford residents, there’s still no $400 annual renters’ rebate, no $10-a-day childcare, and we’re still 98 years away from the NDP fulfilling their affordable housing target,” added

Andrew Wilkinson, BC Liberal leader. “Rents, gas prices, ICBC rates, and job losses are all up while housing starts are down, and the economy is flatlining. Nobody is getting ahead under John Horgan except NPD friends and insiders.” Some of the biggest failures of the NDP’S budget is the lack of options for Fraser Valley commuters, increased demand for space at UFV, and the severe shortage of doctors in the region.

“With 22 new or increased NDP taxes, skyrocketing ICBC premiums, and increasing unemployment, Abbotsford families are feeling the pinch,” concluded Banman. “For three years John Horgan and the NDP have ignored the concerns of Abbotsford residents and this budget shows how negligent the NDP continue to be towards our community.”
