In July, Tony Brenders was announced as the new ceo of professional association Interior Designers of canada. Brenders was formerly the executive director and coo at the ontario college of trades. He succeeds Susan Wiggins, who left IDC at the end of 2015 to work with the American Society of Interior Designers, in Washington, D.c.
Ben Derbyshire, the chair of multidisciplinary firm HTA Design, has been elected the next president of the Royal Institute of British Architects. His two-year term in office will begin in September of 2017, when he takes over from Jane Duncan.
Sci-arc EDGE, center for Advanced Studies in Architecture, will begin its inaugural semester in September under the guidance of postgraduate programs chair David Ruy, co-director of New York firm Ruy Klein Architect. the centre, which was announced by Sci-arc director Hernan Diaz Alonso last November, launches with four master programs on offer, focusing respectively on fiction and entertainment; architectural technologies; design of cities; and design theory and pedagogy.
In September, Italian brand Poliform cut the ribbon on a new, 950-square-metre showroom on New York’s Madison Avenue. the prestigious location displays Poliform’s contemporary products by room, and is divided into a series of spaces representing living areas, bedrooms, a kitchen and a lavish walk-in closet.
Montreal architect André Marcotte has joined Sid Lee Architecture as the local firm’s vice president, operations and special projects. Marcotte previously headed up Martin Marcotte/beinhaker Architects.
the United Nations Educational, Scientific and cultural organization has added 17 Le Corbusier projects to its list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Located in seven countries, the buildings include the National Museum of Western Art, in tokyo; Villa Savoye, outside Paris; and cabanon, the architect’s own holiday home, which he claimed to have sketched in less than an hour. the designation recognizes cultural or physical significance and protects the sites so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.
