Taking the Floor POST BY MUUTO

THE MOST EYE-CATCHING LIGHTING COLLECTIONS UNVEILED AT IMM COLOGNE THIS YEAR WERE DECIDEDLY GROUNDED

- WORDS _Evan Pavka

Billed as an “innovative modular lighting design,” Muuto’s Post floor lamp by Rotterdam-based Rachel Griffin (a.k.a Earnest Studio) is just that. Its thin powder-coated steel base and arm are designed to support a number of luminaires that feature integrated magnetic joints to affix the cylindrical heads to the linear support. Each matte black element can be rotated and dimmed via a single power hub, while additional units are easily incorporated within the fixture to provide maximum flexibility and additional illumination. muuto.com

ASTERIA BY UMAGE

Danish brand Umage unveiled a striking new addition to its popular Asteria series at this year’s fair: a floor lamp. Featuring a cylindrical shade with a white diffuser and dimmable LED panel, the luminaire is accented by a thin brass frame and base. A delicate cap turns to control light levels. The fixture is available in four colourways: white, red, green and grey (shown). umage.com

PLISSÉE BY CLASSICON

Sebastian Herkner’s Plissée lamp for Classicon was one of a number of new products (including the much-anticipated dining version of his now-classic Bell table) launched by the German designer this year. Transforming the qualities of pleated fabric into a hand-blown white glass shade in a satin finish, the fixture features an integrated push switch atop its aluminum frame — offered in a black (shown), bronze or brass anodized lacquered finish — and a dimmable LED with a memory function that recalls the exact level of light prior to being turned off. classicon.com
