Cornerstone Developments removes condominium blues, creating a pied-a- terre of stunning sophistication.
Taking ordinary spaces and making them extraordinary is what Cornerstone Developments achieves beautifully. This dated condominium was transformed into a home that speaks to modern function and an elevated standard of living.
President Dev Padhi knows a thing or two about construction, having 21 years of hands-on experience. Promoting customer satisfaction, his experiences have taught him well, with overseeing all aspects of construction from detailed written budget estimates and schedules, to ensuring the correct materials are used and installed with precision.
Added to his seasoned mix of attributes is an attention to detail and commitment to quality that has brought him success as both a custom homebuilder and renovator in Calgary. “I launched Cornerstone Developments in 1993 in Vancouver and moved to Calgary in 2007 to focus on new builds and larger renovations,” shares Dev Padhi.
Working with the design of Kevin Gray Interiors, they collaborated to create this elegant, open-concept home of stylish innovation. “The client wanted something sleek and efficient, a clean look that would maximize the flows of this 1,000-square-foot unit,” explains Padhi. Built in the ‘80s the home was closed off and dark and walls were removed and areas realigned to create a bright and inviting layout that would satisfy a more modern lifestyle. “The couple like to entertain and wanted to enjoy their space.”
“Once we removed the walls we needed to relocate lighting, electrical, and plumbing to accommodate the design, and we were somewhat limited in the original space so we dropped the ceiling to provide the needed upgrades,” says Padhi.
Desiring a contemporary pied-a-terre in the city to complement their country home, they wanted sophisticated styling and clean lines and were ultimately charmed by its chic ambience. Enhanced by oak hardwoods, Cambria quartz countertops, and light selections, the desire for function is equally addressed in its millwork design.
Featuring engineered, oak hardwoods the cabinets are custom stained, horizontal-grain oak accented with modern, stainless steel pulls. Bellingham Cambria quartz countertops host a stylish contrast to ceiling-height cabinetry that aligns a glossy, grey porcelain backsplash accented with vertical strip mosaic tile inlays.
The island offers abundant storage on both sides and features a wine glass cabinet at its end while at the opposite side a dining table adjoins the island, offering a stylish transition. A trio of dropped pendant lights provides elegant illumination to a very inviting setting. The great room exhibits comprehensive style and millwork with wall cabinetry that combines ample storage with hidden column support.
