Their show home in Silverhorn reflects this highly focused philosophy that was initially inspired by a ski chalet in Vale, Colorado. “We thought it would fit in quite well in Calgary and Silverhorn especially. We carefully reviewed what the majority of families prefer in Bearspaw and determined it was about freedom and choice,” adds Marc.
Securing the talents of Ellergodt Design, the home pushes design limits, while taking full advantage of the unique Bearspaw landscape with a generous lot that backs onto a ravine and the wonders of Silverhorn’s natural habitat. “Marc suggested a mountain theme and I quickly agreed. There are many examples of traditional architecture in Calgary, yet modern contemporary styles more easily allows one to showcase unique and interesting features,” shares Brent Ellergodt.
Stone, warm wood, and metal elements blend with shed rooflines and generous glazing with dazzling results. Created with family and entertainment in mind, the open floor plan also hosts private areas with a meditation room, home theatre, lofted bonus room, and a full gym that mingles with large, open spaces. Dual masters and two additional bedrooms in the basement provide a comfortable and luxurious home for a family with older children or frequent guests. “Visitors definitely stay in comfort with a full wet bar, home theatre, and second laundry,” admits Marc.

“Visitors to our show home love its unique design and how big the house feels, given a modest footprint that promotes energy savings,” says Marc. “They are drawn to its openness and how refreshing the décor is. Plus, there is not one flat ceiling above ground.” Sloped or vaulted to form interest and create room definition, the home is anything but cookie-cutter in look, feel, and function.
