Uncommon Wine Rooms
An entrepreneur of considerable skill and creative ability, Pieter Spinder owner of Uncommon Wine Rooms, knows the difference between the conventional and the coveted. “I enjoy trying to decipher the client’s vision to design one-off wine rooms that affords each client something unique,” cites Spinder.
Providing dramatic décors of inimitable appeal, he ventures to create contemporary, rustic, traditional, and old-world designs, embellishing themes to capture scale and function that advance lifestyle preferences. “Currently I have been creating a blend of old-world with modern influences, those styles being very popular on their own, and when converged provide a happy medium,” admits Spinder.
Typically approached by clients with photos and ideas of what they may want, Spinder visits the home to view the existing décor and assist with decisions on style and complementary finish options. “I can work with any budget. Sometimes it can be just wall racks or a 2,000-bottle wine cellar. Some clients are wine collectors, while others just want an architectural showpiece in their home,” adds Spinder.
Admitting options to be endless as long as one is creative with materials, Spinder’s collaborative approach with the homeowner, designer, or architect results in a function and a capacity that suits the client’s style and their needs. “Collectors typically require climate control (cooling units and humidification) that can reside outside the wine room if required, which increases options for renovations,” claims Spinder. “Our craftsmen are topnotch, ensuring the best quality from start to finish. It is important to me that every client has a wine room that can be as visually inviting as any other room in the home.”
