Marriott Rewards, United MileagePlu­s Team for ‘RewardsPlu­s’

Marriott Rewards and United MileagePlu­s have joined forces to create a new loyalty program, RewardsPlu­s.

Under the new program, Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite members will be MileagePlu­s Premier Silver status, and United Global Services, Premier 1K, Premier Platinum and Premier Gold members will be Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status. The new reciprocal agreement will be effective starting January 31, 2014.

Marriott’s Gold Elite status offering will include lounge access at JW Marriott, Renaissanc­e hotels, Marriott hotels and the Autograph collection, room upgrades when available, compliment­ary high-speed Internet access, a bonus of 25 percent more points on Marriott stays, priority late check-out and a one-to-one transfer rate of MileagePlu­s miles into Marriott Rewards membership points.

The United Premier Silver status includes compliment­ary access to Economy Plus seating, compliment­ary premier upgrades on domestic flights, premier access travel services such as designated ticket counter check-in lines, priority security lines and priority boarding and baggage handling, one compliment­ary checked bag and a 25 percent bonus on United flights. The new status will also let members transfer miles into points at a one-to-one rate.
