clacompagn­ie.com on my flight was more than expected with a piping hot omelet served with sausage and beans. On Paris to Newark flights, a two-course hot meal is served after takeoff and a substantia­l cold cut platter before landing. My late-night dinner was accompanie­d with a glass of Paolo Leo Numen Chardonnay 2011, and I was impressed with the selection of wines and champagne. After dinner, I decided to get some shut-eye donning an eye mask and hoping for sound slumber, which quickly followed.

We landed in Paris on time and taxied to Terminal 1. I was through immigratio­n and customs within five minutes of deplaning – remember, with so few passengers on the plane, there is rarely a line – and was on my way into the city in no time.

La Compagnie may not offer the most elaborate inflight services or a fully flat bed, but at these prices, it is a steal. This is aviation’s best kept secret, for now. BT
