4 SCHIFFBAU

Exit the Prime Tower and walk five minutes northeast under the Hardbrucke overpass and take a left on to Schiffbaustrasse. On the right is Schiffbau, a former shipyard. This vast brick edifice has huge arch-windows and a disused rail track leads to its entrance.

Converted by architect Peter Kern, Schiffbau reopened in 2002 as a cultural hub. It has a restaurant, jazz club and theatre and is particularly lively in the evening. It can also be accessed throughout the day and is worth popping in to admire the steel girders and machinery that hang from its ceiling.
