Delicious food and fine wines made for a convivial evening at our event at the Stafford London in November
A report from our reader event at the Stafford London
Readers of Business Traveller enjoyed an indulgent evening in the 300-year-old cellars of the Stafford London hotel in St James’s in November. After a reception enjoyed over the first of the wines, a Lugana “Le Creete”, Ottella, Veneto, Italy, 2017 prosecco, master sommelier Gino Nardella expertly talked attendees through the bottles they would be tasting. Guests were then free to sample as few or as many as they liked, ranging from light whites through to full-bodied reds. The wines on offer were Lievland, Chenin Blanc, Paarl, South Africa, 2017; Paul de Albas, Ribera del Duero, 2011; Château La Croix Mouton, Bordeaux, France, 2015; and the Cigar, Cabernet Sauvignon, Yalumba Estate, Coonawarra, Australia, 2014.
Staff from the Stafford provided canapés including crisp tiger prawns with Singapore chilli sauce; gin and tonic blini with horseradish crème fraîche; game bird terrine with brioche and chutney; and wild mushroom arancini with truffle mayonnaise.
At the end of the evening there was a presentation of a prize for a short written quiz, with the winner receiving a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal champagne 2009.
Following the event’s end at 9pm, many guests retired upstairs to the hotel’s famous American Bar to continue sharing travel experiences and tips.
