Air New Zealand has unveiled the prototype of a new lie-flat sleep product for economy class travelers. The Economy Skynest will offer six full length lie-flat sleep pods to be positioned within existing economy class on long haul flights. The lie-flat pods will be fitted with privacy curtains and connectivity to entertainment. The product would be booked with traditional economy seating at an additional cost.

Air New Zealand said in a release that it will make a final decision on whether to operate the Skynest next year after it has assessed the performance of its inaugural year of AucklandNew York operations. Government regulation and decisions on roll-out are still to be worked out but the airline calls the new product “a game changer for economy class travelers on all airlines around the world.” airnewzealand.com
