POWER RANKINGS

- By Vicki Hall, Calgary Herald (previous ranking in parentheses)

1. SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (1) The only perfect team in the land. Stunning in all phases of the game. Darian Durant flirting with superstar status under the tutelage of George Cortez. And how about the inspirational comeback of Rob Bagg?

2. B.C. LIONS (2) Surviving the departure of Khalif Mitchell and Geroy Simon just fine, thank you very much. Emmanuel Arceneaux looking like he never left. Travis Lulay keeps rolling.

3. CALGARY STAMPEDERS (3) Drew Tate, Kevin Glenn, Bo Levi Mitchell — the identity of the starting quarterback doesn’t seem to matter for the Stamps. Injuries threaten to eventually catch up with this group. Lots of unsung heroes.

4. TORONTO ARGONAUTS (4) Beasts of the east (relatively speaking) need to weather stormy waters with Ricky Ray and Chad Kackert going down in Winnipeg. Team depth about to be tested, especially with Brandon Isaac shown the door.

5. MONTREAL ALOUETTES (6) Hard to believe the Als are No. 5 in the land, but their defence and special teams are still first-rate. Offensively, look for a coaching change on the bye week if the Als can’t beat the Eskimos. Discipline an issue.

6. EDMONTON ESKIMOS (8) A maddening season for the faithful in the self-appointed City of Champions. The Esks have plenty of solid pieces (Hugh Charles, J.C. Sherritt, Fred Stamps. But holes in key places (especially the offensive line) make it tough to actually put points on the board.

7. WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (5) This defence can win games by itself (Alex Hall is an absolute stud coming off the edge.) Unfortunately, the Bombers keep finding creative ways to lose.

8. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (7) Coming off a humiliating shutout in Saskatchewan, there’s nothing positive to report about the Tabbies. Pity the poor people of Guelph.
