Unnecessary

It’s rather unfortunate that we — the apparently hopeless masses — cannot act as one and shun this completely unnecessary election. Surely, that would send a message to Premier Jim Prentice.

Specifically, we did not need to be asked for a mandate. It’s now moot, but repeating that message would never convince anyone. We, the despairing and the distressed, actually understood Prentice had real reasons for calling an early election. However, most of the rest of us were willing to wait with bated breath for it to be held in a year or so. No doubt he’d still be elected at that time.

But being the dutiful voters that we are ( or should be), we’ll march to the polling booth in as many days to fulfil our democratic, if premature and somewhat farcical, obligation. Way to go, chief. Len Rudolph, Calgary
