How to grow perennial vegetables in Calgary

-

Many ornamental and edible plants are perennial in nature, but grown as annuals in Calgary.

Janet Melrose, Calgary’s Cottage Gardener, will discuss perennial vegetables and herbs that will return to life each spring in Calgary, including onions, herbs, greens for salads and stirfries, asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, sorrel and more.

“Perennial vegetables come up very early in the spring, and you can often enjoy eating them before you’ve even got seeds in the ground for your annual vegetable garden,” says Melrose, who will lead a session Sunday at 11 a. m.
