MASTER RETREAT

Ladera’s luxurious touches

- JOSH SKAPIN

An ensuite with all the qualities of a tranquil retreat and an ample walkin closet make the master bedroom one of the highlights of Ladera.

This 2,027-square-foot floor plan is on display as one of two new show homes by veteran builder Shane Homes in Nolan Hill. It has three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms and a front-attached two-car garage.

Nolan Hill is a community in Calgary’s Symons Valley corridor master-planned by United Communities. It’s a convenient distance from arteries such as Shaganappi Trail, Sarcee Trail and Stoney Trail and commercial hubs, including Beacon Hill and Creekside Shopping Centres.

The Ladera’s master bedroom and its amenities stretch across the back wall of the second floor. At 12 feet seven inches by 14 feet three inches, the bedroom is a generous size, making way for a king-sized bed and large furniture with space to spare.

After a tough day at the office, it’s easy to imagine ending the day enjoying the ensuite’s deep soaker tub.

The tub is tucked in the corner under two large windows that sit side-by-side. On one side of the tub, there’s a glass-encased standalone shower. There’s an expansive vanity under a full-length mirror on the other. The walk-in closet is accessed off the back part of the ensuite. This is handy for getting ready for work without disturbing the other person if they don’t need to get up until later.

The two secondary bedrooms are an equal square footage and share a wall where their respective closets are back-to-back. Across the hall from the bedrooms are a large full bathroom and laundry room with a front-load washer and dryer.

On the front part of the second floor, there’s a spacious bonus room with a series of tall windows that look over the yard.

A staircase from the middle part of the top floor steps down to the hallway on the main level. The hallway connects the foyer to an open-concept kitchen, dining area and great room.

The great room boasts a cantilever fireplace with towering windows on either side in a welcoming space for entertaining.

Continuing its penchant for hosting, the dining area makes room for both small and large gatherings.

The kitchen is steps from the outdoors. Its main wall has sliding glass doors that access a back deck.

The kitchen is an L-shaped arrangement that features a rectangular corner pantry and wraps around a centre island. This island has a sink and extended eating bar with seating for two people.

There’s a wide selection of cabinets and drawers offering no shortage of space for tucking away pots and pans. The kitchen also features stainless steel appliances, including an over-the-range microwave.

The main floor also comes with a half bathroom and mudroom that links to the attached garage.
