Brookfield moves beyond its own communities

Builder says Fireside project ‘aligns’ with its development values

Brookfield Residential is set to join a community that isn’t developed by the company itself.

The builder and developer offers a wide gamut of housing options, but previously only in communities master-planned by its own land division. Brookfield Residential is now part of a new phase in the Cochrane community of Fireside, which is by La Vita Land. The phase set to open sales later this summer.

One of the reasons for Brookfield’s move to Fireside is that it was in-step with the company’s own set of priorities, says Ryan Moon, general manager, business development, Calgary homes urban and north.

“If you look at La Vita Land and what they’ve done with Fireside, our values around how we develop a community are definitely aligned,” says Moon. Fireside is a community on Cochrane’s south side, accessed off Cowboy Trail. Moon points to the community’s emphasis on location, home design, amenities and how it connects with nature as keys to Fireside’s appeal.

“Then in addition to that, it’s a great place for people from all stages of life to live,” says Moon. “It’s a great family neighbourhood, it’s an affordable neighbourhood. When the opportunity popped up, it just made sense.”

Brookfield’s phase includes 87 lots with move-up and laned single-family homes and semidetached homes.

“That phase also backs on to the south boundary of the site where our future pathway system will run, so the people that live adjacent to the south boundary will have easy access to south system with a gate in their backyard, which is pretty neat,” La Vita development manager Laura Hladyshevsky.

Another reason Fireside was a good fit was the attraction of Cochrane, adds Moon. “Not only is Cochrane one of the fastest growing municipalities from a family and community perspective, it’s a great place to live,” says Moon.

Brookfield also builds in the new northwest community of Symons Gate, along with McKenzie Towne, Cranston and Auburn Bay on Calgary’s southeast side.
