The funeral for a man who died after nearly drowning in Lake Chaparral earlier this month will be held on Thursday.

A written statement from the victim’s family identified him as 37- year- old Octavio Hernandez Terriquez, a father of two five-year-old boys and a six- month- old daughter.

Terriquez, along with his wife and children, was swimming in the man- made southeast lake on Aug. 3 when he submerged. His wife alerted the Calgary Fire Department’s aquatic rescue team, who were performing training exercises there at the time.

Team members were able to save pull Terriquez to safety and perform CPR.

He was taken to South Health Campus in life- threatening condition, but succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 10.

Terriquez and his wife, Florisel Ramon Lopez, came to Canada from Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2007. He opened his own renovation business four years later.

Friends have set up a fund to help support Terriquez’s family.

Meanwhile, his funeral will be held at 6 p. m. on Thursday at the Mountain View Funeral Home, 1605 100th Street S. E.
