- COLETTE DERWORIZ

The Waterton Lake wildfire is being held by crews who were able to get it 70 per cent contained.

“Given current firefighting resources and the weather forecast, no further fire growth is anticipated,” Doreen McGillis, a spokeswoman for Waterton Lakes National Parks, said in an email update on Tuesday morning.

The fire started on Friday in Glacier National Park, but Parks Canada responded as part of a mutual aid agreement between the two parks.

There are currently six crews from Waterton Lakes, Prince Albert, Yoho/ Kootenay and Mount Revelstoke/ Glacier national parks, as well as two contracted crews and two helicopters, fighting the fire.

They are working with the U. S. National Park Service to manage the fire on Campbell Mountain, on the west side of Upper Waterton Lake in Glacier National Park.

The wildfire is being held at about 10 hectares in size, about 100 metres wide and one kilometre in length.
