Too hard for seniors

-

Should you have questions about pensions and Old Age Security, the system the federal government has put in place to deal with your concerns is arranged to be inaccessible.

The 1- 800- 277- 9915 Service Canada number is pretend. A real person answers, but their sole function is to give you a list of other numbers which are, by Service Canada’s own admission, never answered — literally. Otherwise, you’ll be referred to their website, which in terms of complexity would make the Gordian Knot seem like tic- tac- toe.

The only way to get any assistance is to go to one of the two offices in Calgary. One is in Marlborough Mall and the other is on the city’s far western edge. There, you’ll be treated with courtesy and efficiency.

The federal government should be ashamed of this scandalous situation.

What happens if you don’t have a car, can’t drive or are otherwise housebound? I’m sure I speak for all seniors when I ask that action be taken to remedy this deplorable state of affairs. Chris Macdonald, Calgary
