Dead dog found dumped in garbage
Calgary Humane Society says the death appears suspicious in nature
Officers are investigating after a dog was found dead in a garbage bin in the northeast Calgary community of Sunridge last weekend.
Brad Nichols, manager of cruelty investigations at the Calgary Humane Society, said a customer coming out of a store in the 2900 block of Sunridge Way N.E. on Saturday discovered the black and white, male bully-type dog in the bin.
“It was virtually empty other than a few pieces of debris, but the body was discovered inside of a slightly ripped garbage bag,” Nichols said, adding the customer is co-operating with investigators.
Nichols said the canine had no identification, was not neutered, and did not have its tail docked or its ears cropped, which is common with those types of dogs. It appears to be about four or five years old and “the nutritional condition of the body appears to be pretty good,” he added. Investigators are trying to determine how long the dog has been dead.
The death appears suspicious in nature, although Nichols declined to release any details of injuries so as not to taint any tips coming in.
The humane society released an image of the dead dog.
Officers will also be looking at obtaining CCTV from the area.
“It’s unfortunate, it’s criminal in nature, and we’re going to put every resource we have into seeking out the accused,” Nichols said, urging anyone with information to come forward.
