‘Living books’ offer info on cancer

- DOUG HINTZ

In the fight against cancer, information is key.

In a partnership between Alberta Health Services and Calgary’s Central Library, cancer experts will act as ‘ living books,’ sharing knowledge through their profession or experience on how to access treatment and support, as well as personal stories of battles with the devastating disease.

According to statistics from the Canadian Cancer Society, about two in five Canadians will develop cancer in their lifetime while about one in four die of the disease.

Among the experts available for 15- minute, oneon- one interviews with members of the public will be oncologists, researchers, educators, patients, survivors and family members.

They will be able to address such issues as cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, posttreatment, end-of-life care and caregiving.

No medical advice will be given.

The event will run Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Library, at 616 Macleod Trail, S.E.
