Waiting for a new police chief
Re: “A year of shooting deaths in Calgary,” Sept. 22.
In recent days, it has been reported that Calgary has seen an increase in gang violence, shootings and stabbings. Furthermore, there has also been a significant rise in the number of break-ins in certain parts of the city.
Given those reports, there seems to be no doubt that crime is on the increase in the city. However, with an inexplicable decision to consult the public about the appointment of a new police chief, we still do not have a new chief.
There may be no correlation between the delayed appointment and the rise in crime, but it sure shows that the inability to make a decision independent of the public under the engagement culture, should give Calgarians serious thought about the leadership in Calgary.
