FAMILY STARTS A NEW LEGACY

WestCreek home offered everything they had been looking for

Seann and Shauna Eldan’s 1,400-square-foot bungalow quickly fell short of their growing family needs.

They’ve been in the Canyon Meadows home for 12 years but with an 11-year-old son and eightyear-old daughter, it was time for something more spacious.

“We were just outgrowing the house,” says Shauna, who owns a plumbing company with Seann. “We’ve got two kids and they are getting older and getting more stuff and you know how that goes.”

The Eldan family found what they were looking for in Legacy. They discovered the new southeast Calgary community, accessed off 210th Avenue from Macleod Trail, while dropping off their travel trailer at a nearby RV storage facility.

They decided to pull in and see what was available.

“We actually fell in love with the lot,” Shauna says.

“We had been looking for a really long time trying to find something that had a green space behind it, walkout basement and just the location was fantastic. We jumped on it.”

The green space behind their lot includes a pond and pathways that reach up to a playground. From the time the Eldan family’s moving truck pulled up, the outdoor feature has been a hit.

“The first day we got possession (our children) were out there on their rollerblades and their bikes, and I think it really gives them a nice little sense of freedom that they didn’t have before,” says Shauna. “It’s fantastic, it really is.”

Legacy has an expansive list of move-up home options by builder group Sterling Homes, Stepper Custom Homes, Calbridge Homes, Trico Homes and WestCreek Homes.

Prices in this segment start from the mid-$500,000s. Stepper, Sterling and Calbridge have show homes on Legacy Lane while WestCreek’s are on Legacy Boulevard and Trico’s are on Legacy Circle.

The Eldans built through WestCreek, with a customized version of the company’s threebedroom, 2.5 bathroom Riverbend floor plan.

“We hardly had to upgrade anything,” says Shauna, calling that a “real plus with a move-up home.”

“The only extra that we really put into the house was extending the driveway and extending the garage so we could park our truck in there and park our trailer on the driveway,” she adds.

“We have had a lot of positive feedback from family and friends who have come to the house and who have said, ‘This is included? Wow.’ It’s really good feedback.”

Legacy has been an attraction to move-up buyers for a number of reasons, including a planned Catholic high school, says West-Creek’s development manager Jared Goldade.

“Especially for move-up buyers with younger families or even if you’ve got five-, six-, 10-year-olds, it’s a great place to move to knowing that you’re going to have a high school in your community,” Goldade says. Construction on the high school is expected to start in spring 2017.

Desirable amenities in and near the community are also driving interest from move-up buyers. This includes quick proximity to golf courses, along with a movie theatre, restaurants, grocery stores, shops and services at Shawnessy Towne Centre, Goldade says.

“Legacy also has great amenities within the community,” he added.

This includes a large pathway system and 121 hectares in environmental reserve. “People in that move-up market, with a couple of kids, it’s a great opportunity to live somewhere and be close to already constructed amenities and yet still have that option of going for a walk through the Pine Creek Valley.”

The Eldans were also impressed by the esthetics of the community – a quality that should bolster resale value down the road.

“We just loved the architecture of it,” Shauna says.

Architecture in Legacy includes traditional themes, such as Tudor, Prairie and Craftsman designs.

“We noticed the rock features that they were building (in the community) and just how regal it really looked,” adds Shauna. “It made it look like it had a lot of character.”

Beyond the move-up segment, Legacy also offers estate homes, laned homes, duplexes and townhomes by 13 seasoned builders.
