View great ideas for renovations during tour

- CINDY STEPHEN

Great renovation ideas will be on parade during the free RenoMark Renovation and Infill Tour on Sat- urday. Ten recently renovated or newly built homes on infill lots will be open to the public throughout Calgary and area.

This self-guided tour of eight transformed homes and two new infills — all private residences — will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All work showcased during this tour was completed by members of the Canadian Home Builder’s Association, Calgary Region and RenoMark. This tour will highlight the best of today’s current trends in home renovation and creative infill design.

“We want people to know that our members take great care and pride in their work. People can also ask some important questions,” says Donna Moore, chief executive of CHBA, Calgary Region. “For example, our renovators adhere to a code of conduct, which includes a written contract, warranties, licensing and insurance coverage. Through our association, they agree to abide by a specific code of ethics. People visiting the different homes can ask the renovator or builder about all these important things to consider when doing business.”

The CHBA Calgary Region is a not-for-profit organization with a membership of more than 660 companies representing all facets of new home construction. As many as 52,300 people work in the residential construction industry in the city. Saturday’s tour is an excellent opportunity for Calgarians to get inspired about their own home improvement projects and to meet the professionals who can make it happen.

Home renovation continues to be big business in Calgary. In 2014, 19,600 people were employed in the home renovation industry, contributing to the $3.1 billion investment value to Calgarians who had work done on their homes. The wave of new home development in established communities in Calgary was precipitated by the City of Calgary’s Municipal Development Plan, which encourages the densification of inner-city neighbourhoods.

Homes on this tour include an infill home in West Hillhurst by Albi Homes and a Mount Pleasant home from NuVista Homes. There are homes that have been completely renovated in the communities of Canyon Meadows, Glendale, Spring Valley, Scenic Acres and Tuxedo. Two homes feature partial renovations, such as a main and upper floor reno on a home in Elbow Park by Malbec Homes and Renovations and an exterior and main-floor project in De Winton by Kon-strux Developments.

Children are welcome on the Renovation and Infill Tour but must be supervised at all times. Please respect tour hours, and keep visits to within these times. A list of homes and a map for the tour Saturday can be found at chbacalgary.com. Select “Explore the Possibilities.”
