Brothers plead guilty to kidnapping, rape
Two brothers have admitted snatching a 17- year- old high schoolgirl from a northeast Calgary bus stop and repeatedly raping her, first in a Taradale alley and later at their Martindale home, over an eight- hour period last year.
Corey George Manyshots, 26, and Cody George Manyshots, 22, each pleaded guilty Monday to sexual assault causing bodily harm, kidnapping, robbery and uttering death threats at the start of what was to be a five- day trial at provincial court.
Crown prosecutor Jonathan Hak read an agreed statement of facts that said the girl had been dropped off by a fellow student at a bus stop in Taradale at 11: 25 p. m. on Nov. 14. The two accused showed up after he left, began a conversation with the girl, then grabbed her and took her into an alley where she was thrown to the ground and struck her head.
When one of the men got on top her, she screamed and he started to choke her, saying, “if you say any more or scream, I’ll kill you,”
“( The girl) believed that she would be killed if she continued to scream and so stopped screaming,” Hak told Judge Terry Semenuk.
After both men raped her, Hak said, Cody told her, “‘ If you want to live one more night, come with us or you can die in the alley.’ . . . ( She) did not want to die and so she pulled up her leggings and went with Cody and Corey.”
The three of them went to the Manyshots’ home, where they took her to a downstairs bedroom and each raped her again.
Hak said the girl “believed if she did not ‘ take it’ she would be killed, and so she let the defendants repeatedly rape her.”
The girl then said Corey made a phone call and appeared to be talking about drugs. He then began making food while carrying a large knife in his hand, further scaring her.
Hak said they later raped her again.
At about 1 or 2 a. m., the victim saw both men smoking what she believed was crack cocaine. She then described both accused as being “out of it.”
Cody remained sleeping beside her, while Corey was asleep in an upstairs bedroom
At 8 a. m., the girl put on her jacket, grabbed her bag and quietly walked upstairs, past Corey, and stepped out the back door, “ending her period of captivity,” Hak said.
She took a bus, then a train home, and then reported the ordeal to police. She took officers to the bus stop she was abducted from, the alley where the first sexual assaults occurred and then the Manyshots’ home.
At the accused’s residence, following their arrest, police found the girl’s wallet and missing sock.
