Police investigating two deaths in Coventry Hills
‘ This is a nice neighbourhood and not something you see everyday’
Neighbours were stunned to arrive home Monday evening to see police at a northeast home where two people were found dead.
Officers were called around 10 a. m. to check on the welfare of an individual in the 200 block of Coventry Close N. E. in the community of Coventry Hills.
They found two people dead inside the home.
Police do not believe this was a random attack. Autopsies have not been scheduled at this time and no names have been released.
Hours after the grisly discovery, the forensic crime scene unit truck remained parked out front, cruisers still surrounded the home, and yellow tape cordoned off the front of the property and the back alley.
The screen door had been left open, as well as a shed door next to the home. A stone angel decoration sat undisturbed in the front yard.
Earlier this summer, there was a real estate listing for the residence, described as a split- level home on a “quiet street” across from a park.
Residents described the community as close- knit where neighbours are friends and children play together in the playground across from the home.
But not much was known about the residents of the home.
The neighbour next door, who did not wish to be identified, said a woman had moved into the home last year.
“I think she was looking after some mentally challenged people. We never had issues with them, they were super friendly,” the neighbour said. “They were really quiet, nice people. We really didn’t hear anything, so we didn’t suspect anything.”
Shannalee Ward, a stay- at- home mom, said “you never see them” coming out of the house.
Ward said she was shocked to see members of the tactical team pull up to the street, and even more shaken to learn of the deaths, adding she’s worried about violence in her neighbourhood. “It makes you scared,” she added. Jordan Rodriguez, who has lived in the area for 15 years, said he was also surprised to come home from work to see police at the scene.
“This is a nice neighbourhood and not something you see everyday,” he said.
“I live just two doors down, so it’s pretty bone- chilling, I guess.”
