Sarah Geddes of Sass Communications and Kelly Doody of Daily Inc. Media & PR have run successful companies in this city for some time. They’ve now merged their businesses into Press + Post, a combined public relations and content marketing firm, setting up shop in a comfortable space at 7th Street off 42nd Avenue S. E.

Geddes launched Sass 15 years ago and built it up with a fine stable of accounts in the retail, restaurant, real estate and travel industries.

For many of those years she did a great job for both Chinook Mall and Market Mall, until the marketing for those businesses was centralized in Toronto. That allowed Geddes to accept the offer to handle The CORE account, starting with a release announcing the fashionable downtown shopping centre had been recognized by the International Council of Shopping Centres for its marketing expertise.

Geddes still has a good relationship with the malls and continues her relationship with Chinook Centre in representing Tiffany & Co., an account she handles for Alberta with other locations in Holt Renfrew and West Edmonton Mall.

Another long- standing relationship has been with the Concorde Group, which counts 17 restaurants in Calgary and is embarking on a growth strategy to expand into other major cities in Western Canada.

Doody was brought up in Calgary but completed university in Vancouver where she stayed for 10 years before moving on to Montreal and Toronto. Returning to Calgary in 2009, she joined the Calgary Sun and wrote the Page Six column there for three years before joining the Calgary Herald as a weekly columnist.

Recognizing the shift to social media, Doody did freelance work for a while and then started her own Daily Ink company. Particularly fond of Inglewood, she persuaded the Inglewood BRZ to become the first to use social media, a move that helped executive director Rebecca O’Brien increase business membership from 95 to 212 and earn recognition as the Best Neighbourhood in Canada from the Institute of Urban Planners.

Doody is now helping Roso Coffee Roasters promote its opening of a new cafe location in the 1400 block of 9th Avenue.

Among the new accounts Press + Post secured are the soon to be re- merchandised Northland Mall and the planned Bingham Crossing development along the Trans Canada Highway in Rocky View County.

Gary Davies is a partner of Press + Post, assisting with operations, and Kelly Steward, formerly a social strategist with Shaw Communications for four years, has been hired as communications director responsible for content marketing.

The company has also engaged a stable of experienced and knowledgeable freelance writers offering them opportunities to connect with the brands and businesses that need them most.

Doody and Geddes are holding a Social Summit marketing and media event at the Globe Theatre from Nov. 25 to 27 to share their expertise with others wanting to learn more about social media.

There is some good news to be found in our oil and gas industry.

Calgary junior exploration company Alvopetro, with a staff of 30 in Brazil and 11 in Calgary, has formed a partnership with ENGIE, a $ 60- billion French E& P and Power producer. Alvopetro president and CEO Corey Ruttan says the partnership is a sign of ENGIE’s commitment to Brazil and a huge vote of confidence in the Alvopetro team.

Following Brazil’s most recent bid round, the new Alvopetro/ ENGIE relationship was the successful bidder on four blocks in the onshore Reconcavo Basin.

Alvopetro has applied North American innovation to old areas, reprocessing data in Calgary with modern techniques that has provided some phenomenal results including two initial exploration discoveries.
