THE ‘BEST MANAGED’ CLUB
Four Calgary builders have been singled out by a program that shines a light on the top managed companies in Canada. Morrison Homes, Trico Homes, Jayman Built Group of Companies and Cardel Lifestyles were all recognized by Canada’s Best Managed Companies
These companies are measured on various factors related to sustainable growth, including commitment, capability and strategy. All companies involved are Canadian owned and have revenues that surpass $10 million. Awards will be presented during a gala event on April 12.
The program acknowledges its award recipients by category, which define the length of time a business has retained its status as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and others that are new to the list.
Trico, Morrison and Jayman Built were all in the platinum category, which honours companies that have held the status for seven or more years. This was Cardel Lifestyles’ first year with best managed company status.
TRICO HOMES
“The Trico Homes’ team is proud, we are inspired, and we have an ambitious vision,” says Wanda Palmer, vice-president of marketing. Trico’s been named to the list 12 years in a row. “Our company has worked hard to develop smart business practices backed by a strong leadership team and an elevated corporate culture, tools that are fuelling our success. It feels great to have a team that makes our business a recognized best managed company — again.”
The builder is active in 13 Calgary and area communities. It offers semi-estate, move-up and laned single-family homes, duplexes, townhomes and condos.
MORRISON HOMES
“The Morrison team has proven once again what can be achieved when we hold fast to our values and put our customers first,” says Dave Gladney, president and CEO of Morrison Homes. This is the seventh year Morrison has made the list. “I thank all of our team members, as well as our trade and industry partners for their unwavering commitment, effort and teamwork. We couldn’t achieve this level of business success without you.”
Morrison builds estate and moveup single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes. It’s currently part of six Calgary communities.
JAYMAN BUILT GROUP OF COMPANIES
Jayman has been on the list since 2002.
“This lets us communicate to our customers, suppliers and trades that we are the best place to do business,” says Sunny Ghali, Jayman’s vice-president, human resources. The company is part of 14 Calgary and area communities with a wide assortment of housing options. “Being recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies internally allows us to communicate to our current and potential employees that we are the best place to work.
“The platform has continued to allow us to highlight the importance of being an engaged organization to not only external partners and vendors but internally, as well. We have been able to work with the organization and our employees to help develop behaviours that represent that of a best managed company.”
CARDEL LIFESTYLES
Cardel Lifestyles is the lone multifamily developer from Calgary to be awarded best managed status. “Over the past three years we have been focused on our business strategy to seek ways to improve our multi-family business,” says president Tim Logel. “At the core of the strategy was to exceed our customers’ expectations on every part of the process, and to treat them like we would want to be treated.”
Cardel Lifestyles has sites in five Calgary communities.
“I believe it is our locations, our dedicated and talented team, our award-winning customer service and experiences, our top sales records for 10 years for most condos and towns sold in suburban Calgary, and our passion to be better at what we do that helped us win this prestigious award,” Logel says.
