Four-year sentence for fatal game of chicken

-

A Sylvan Lake man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a drunken game of chicken that killed his best friend. Nathan Corey Scott, who is 29, pleaded guilty earlier this year to impaired driving causing the death of 26-year-old Michael Connelly. Court heard that Scott had been drinking and doing cocaine in August 2014, before he and Connelly decided to race at each other, on their dirt bikes, in Sylvan Lake. Connelly died at the scene and Scott was flown to hospital with injuries. Police said at the time that neither of the two men were wearing helmets, and added that their bikes were neither registered nor street-legal. A judge also banned Scott from driving for five years after his release from prison.
