Olympians are on a lifelong journey

Re: “Oh, Canada, what a great Games,” Aug. 22.

Thank you to all the Olympians for keeping the world enthralled the past two weeks. The talent on display was undeniable, but it was the dedication to your craft as you persevered to your goal that we should all strive to emulate in our own lives.

Now comes the hard reality: unless your name is Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, or someone else high profile, it is likely the athlete will fade from our memories. They will struggle to receive funding, training and support.

So while we may only think of these athletes every two years, let’s remember that their journey is lifelong. Marvin Matthews, Calgary
