Engineers missing from Olympic study
Re: “Research into city’s Olympic bid must be rigorous,” Rob Breakenridge, Opinion, Sept. 27.
The possibility of hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics is tantalizing considering our experience from the 1988 event, and the more recent success in Vancouver. Rob Breakenridge turns on some amber lights concerning the makeup of the exploration committee. I would like to add one more caution on the road to 2026.
The 1988 bid was led by two professional engineers, Frank King and Bob Niven, both educated and experienced in the design, costing, scheduling and construction of major projects. In addition, they both had great enthusiasm for the entire concept.
The announced committee is a diverse group of fine individuals, but where are the engineers? Al Kiernan, Calgary
