Pit bull puppies listed for sale on Kijiji stolen from home in city’s northeast
Calgary police are investigating after they say three people made off with 17 pit bull puppies advertised for sale on Kijiji.
At about 4 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call in the Whitehorn area reporting the puppies had been stolen.
Sgt. Dale Gorrill said the people selling the dogs received a call from someone saying they were under house arrest and requesting one of the puppies be brought to them.
One of the sellers complied, and while that person was away, another group came to look at the puppies at the home.
“They entered the house, there were two males and one female, apparently loaded up 17 puppies and then took off with the puppies,” Gorrill said.
One of the victims was a senior, and Gorrill said they complied with what the suspects were telling them to do.
Gorrill added it’s possible there could be more to the case.
“There’s a possibility that on the initial sale of the dogs, there was a contractual obligation that wasn’t met financially,” he said.
The residents of the home weren’t immediately available for comment Wednesday.
As part of the investigation, officers are keeping an eye on Kijiji ads to see if the puppies turn up.
Gorrill reminded Calgarians to think of police district offices as a “safe zone” to do Kijiji transactions.
“Rather than at your home or somebody else’s home, where incidents can always happen,” he said.
