A Calgary teen is dead and her father and a friend are in lifethreatening condition in hospital after a rollover on McKnight Boulevard N.E. on Tuesday.

Meghan Bomford, 17, was a passenger in a westbound Jeep being driven by her father, Shaun Bomford, that crashed just before 5 p.m.

The vehicle lost control between 68th Street and 52nd Street N.E. and rolled across the eastbound lanes. Police say speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

Bomford’s mother, Lisa, released a statement late Wednesday afternoon.

“Our beloved Meghan was tragically taken from our lives at too young of an age. With so much ahead of her, we are all grieving that we will no longer get to share graduation, birthdays, weddings and other things she was looking forward to. She was such a feisty, generous and loving girl who has a love for all things ringette.”

The statement noted Meghan and the second passenger, Meghan’s best friend Kelsey Nelson, had been hoping to become ringette coaches. “Please remember my daughter for the amazing person she was, which you can see all around, rather than focusing on the tragic circumstances of this accident.”

Meghan’s cousin, Becky Driver, called the teen her best friend and a one-of-a-kind person, who will be desperately missed.

“It is like a nightmare I can’t wake up from, there will never be another person who can fill that empty space she has left in my heart. I already miss her more than words can describe. I would give anything just to see her and hug her one more time,” she said.
