ENZO DESIGN BRINGS OLD, NEW TOGETHER

Popular floor plan sways from the traditional

- JOSH SKAPIN

For homes with a central kitchen, the dining area is typically on the back of the floor plan and the great room is up front.

But what if the design was reversed? Turns out, many buyers are fans of that, too.

This approach is taken in the Enzo, one of the top-selling floor plans for Hopewell Residential’s new Paired Homes in Mahogany.

Master-planned by Hopewell’s land division, Mahogany is a community in southeast Calgary with 22 kilometres of community pathways, 30 hectares of naturalized wetlands and a 25-hectare freshwater lake. It also has a commercial development anchored by a Sobeys grocery store that’s now under construction.

The Enzo is a 1,480-square-foot home with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Each Hopewell show home is staged in a distinct identity. This one is described as a “balance of old and new, pairing antiques with modern lines.”

Flanking the central open-concept kitchen is a dining area, adjacent to the front foyer, and a great room along the rear-facing wall.

Sizable windows that look into the front yard pull a large dose of sunshine into the dining area. And a stub wall in the foyer lets people entering and exiting the home enjoy that natural light, as well.

Families will appreciate the rearfacing great room. It allows parents to keep an eye on their children in the backyard while relaxing after dinner with their favourite show on Netflix. The space features a stylish elongated gas fireplace.

A wall divides the great room from a hallway to the back door.

This hallway also accesses a half bathroom.

The kitchen is a generous size, with plenty of space around its central island. This is a welcome quality for people who like to entertain, and families where multiple people help with the meal.

The island has a sink with a single-lever faucet and an extended eating bar with seating for four people. A microwave is tucked into the body of the island facing the kitchen wall, as well. The appliances are stainless steel, including a fridge with French doors. Across from the kitchen is a large pantry and a broom closet.

On the second floor, the master bedroom is along the back wall and two secondary bedrooms sit sideby-side along the front.

The master bedroom measures 12 feet nine inches by 13 feet, which are comparable to dimensions in some single-family homes. It has an ensuite and walk-in closet accessed off the same wall.

The central part of the main floor has a conveniently located full bathroom, laundry closet and linen closet.

As displayed in the show home, the bedroom count isn’t restricted to three. A developed basement is present with an additional bedroom, bathroom, and rec area.

The home is equipped with a multiple specifications intended to help the owner cut down on monthly utility costs.

It comes with a 92 per cent high efficiency furnace with a drip humidifier, digital programmable thermostat, and high-efficiency direct-vent 50 gallon hot water heater.
