FLAMES GAMEOVER

- Kristen Odland

THREE STARS

1. Arizona C Christian Dvorak — Always plays well against his old pal Matthew Tkachuk, but Monday was at another level as the rookie netted two goals and an assist.

2. Arizona C Ryan White — The former Calgary Hitmen favourite did not look like a fourth-line grinder on this night with a goal and an assist.

3. Arizona G Mike Smith — Like most nights, this guy was the difference for his club and was especially good in the first and third period to frustrate the Flames.

GAME NOTES

Arizona C Martin Hanzal’s goal in the first period gave him three markers in his last two games and four in his last eight — a span in which he has seven points total … Coyotes C Christian Dvorak’s two goals gives him four goals in his last three games … After a couple of return trips to the Saddledome as a spectator, Coyotes C/ RW Josh Jooris logged his first spin as an enemy Monday in the rink he called home the past two campaigns. The former Flames speedster paid a visit to Calgary in mid-November as a member of the New York Rangers, but was still recovering from a separated shoulder at the time. He was waived by the Blueshirts a few weeks later and immediately after being claimed by the Coyotes circled a New Year’s Eve clash in Cowtown. Except the 26-year-old was a healthy scratch that night. “I love playing in this building. It’s a great atmosphere. It should be fun to be back out there,” Jooris said after Monday’s morning skate. “I remember just how excited I was to get the opportunity to play here for the first time. This is the building that I entered the league in and kick-started my career. Just little things like that, it reminds me of it.” … Flames scratched LW Lance Bouma, C Freddie Hamilton and D Jyrki Jokipakka … Flames prospect D Adam Fox and the Harvard Crimson captured the 65th annual Beanpot Championship with a 6-3 win over Boston University … It was Harvard’s first Beanpot Championship since 1993 … Fox, drafted 66th overall (third round) in the 2016 NHL draft, had an empty-net marker.
