Beau Landry sounds like a happy man.

On Wednesday, the Canadian linebacker became the Calgary Stampeders’ first free-agent signing of the season, and the fourthyear player could hardly contain his excitement after speaking with Stampeders president and GM John Hufnagel and defensive co-ordinator DeVone Claybrooks..

“Everything they said aligned with my vision and goals as a football player and this is the exact type of organization I want to be a part of,” Landry said.

In his three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Landry mostly made his mark on special teams. After a solid career with the University of Western Ontario Mustangs, Landry was selected No. 8 overall by the Ticats in 2014.

He’s played in 36 regular season games, recording 28 special teams tackles, one defensive tackle and two forced fumbles.

Landry said he hoped to step in immediately on special teams while also slotting in on the defensive side whenever needed.

“I want to earn my spot and play in any capacity, wherever they ask me,” Landry said.

As for why he chose the Stampeders, Landry said there were multiple factors.

“Obviously, the details of the contract are one thing, but the class of the organization had a lot to do with it,” Landry said. “The conversation with the guys had a lot to do with it, Calgary as a city, a beautiful city, had a lot to do with it, but the organization, from talking to coaches I know and people around the league, they all had great things to say, so that had a lot to do with it.”
