Super Bowl scores big in ratings

- MELISSA HANK

In a world fraught with uncertainty, it’s nice to know that some things stay the same — like the Big Mac, Lego and Jennifer Aniston’s hair. You can also count on the Super Bowl to top TV ratings, and this year was no different.

An average of 111.3 million Americans and almost 4.5 million Canadians tuned in for football’s biggest night, watching the Patriots rally to beat the Falcons and Lady Gaga perform at halftime.

The DC Universe series Powerless, starring Vanessa Hudgens, debuted strong in the No. 13 spot.

Saturday Night Live, meanwhile, popped up at No. 15, with an episode in which host Kristen Stewart dropped an F-bomb, Alec Baldwin revived his version of Donald Trump and Melissa McCarthy made her surprise debut as White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Across Canada, Big Bang may have beat out the Super Bowl in Calgary and Edmonton, but the football fest came out on top in Vancouver, Montreal and the Greater Toronto Area.
