NEW AND NOTEWORTHY AT T.O. DESIGN SHOW
Alykhan Velji shares a few of the products that are creating a buzz this year.
The Interior Design Show (IDS) Toronto, the biggest design show in Canada, is filled with the who’s who in design and is always kicked off with an epic party. This was its 20th year and it did not disappoint.
As a designer, I’m always on the hunt for inspiration, unique pieces to incorporate into my interiors, and shows like this that highlight great Canadian talents. From fantastic features to inspiring keynote speakers, this year’s show really stood out and I’m pleased to share a few new and noteworthy products this month.
MATCHSTICK Marble Moon
Designed by: Laura Langford When I first saw this piece I thought it might be a piece of natural stone or concrete, but when I asked, I was told that it was made of a piece of round steel with a custom paint finish. The texture is gorgeous, the perfect piece to hang on an empty wall or make a statement above a console or sofa (and create some conversation).
LISTONE GIORDANO/ TRENDS & TRADES Biscuit Hardwood Floor by Patricia Urquiola
One designer that I have always looked up to is Patricia Urquiola. She is at the forefront of the design scene for her approach to furniture and now she has now entered the world of flooring. Her new collection breathes new life into the traditional wood floor by giving us details like bevelled and curved wood boards in a herringbone pattern.
SOUTH HILL HOME Stay Dining Chairs
Designed by Nika Zupanc, the Stay chair collection turns everyday seating into a special occasion.
I love the simplicity of the chair design with its elegant tubular powder-coated steel frame and rounded back, which gives the chair an elegant feel. A designer’s dream, these pieces are customizable with any fabric and are also available in outdoor finishes.
ANONY Dawn Pendant
Elegant statement lighting is tricky to find these days but as soon as I turned the corner and saw the ANONY booth I was hooked. The Dawn Pendant is composed of Plexiglas panels that gracefully drape over a refined aluminum tube. The layers of Plexiglas produce dynamic shapes and subtle shades of colours, giving the fixture a fluid-like quality. It is simple yet very intriguing, making it a real IDS standout
QUATRUS R15 Apron front sink collection — BLANCO
The BLANCO Quatrus has always been one of my favourite sinks.
But now that it comes in a gorgeous apron front collection, I couldn’t be happier. This sink marries the traditional style of the apron front sink and the modern stainless steel perfectly. Plus, the 15-mm radius interior corners make it easier to clean than many other stainless sinks.
