Police SUVs were parked for hours Wednesday afternoon on a street in the Ottewell neighbourhood near a vehicle matching the description of a suspect vehicle wanted in connection with a road-rage incident.

Tips were pouring in about possible suspects in a violent roadrage attack Tuesday that left an Edmonton mother with two broken arms, police said.

Edmonton police released images from the woman’s dashboard camera Tuesday afternoon showing what police believe is the vehicle driven by the man responsible for the “vicious” beating near 76th Avenue and 87th Street. The 34-year-old woman was attacked by a man with a crowbar around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were searching for a man and a silver Pontiac Wave that has a seven-digit Alberta licence plate that starts with the letter B. On Wednesday afternoon, three police cars were parked near 91st Avenue and 71st Street, down the street from a snow-covered silver Pontiac with a plate starting with B.

“A lot of tips have been generated,” police spokesman Scott Pattison said earlier Wednesday. “Police are investigating each one of them.”

The victim’s ordeal started when she was driving north on 87th Street and pulled up behind a Pontiac Wave that was stopped in her lane. Police said the woman honked her horn as she turned onto 77th Avenue and passed the vehicle before driving to a nearby residence.

When the woman got out of her vehicle, a man ran up to her and hit her repeatedly with a crowbar as she raised her arms to protect her head from the blows, police said.

The woman was taken to hospital and underwent surgery for two broken arms on Tuesday.

Police first identified the vehicle as a Chevrolet Aveo, but later said the car was a Pontiac Wave.
