30 YEARS OF SUFFERING WITH HEARING LOSS

- Wayne Houghton

I lost my hearing many years ago. For over 30 years I have been seen by four different hearing centres and have had several types of hearing aids. I experienced problems with every one of them due to pressure build up and discomfort in the ear canal. The various centres did not understand my issue. I repeatedly told them about how uncomfortable I found the hearing aids that were prescribed. It was very frustrating trying to find a solution while also suffering from not being able to fully participate in daily activities that involved listening. My hearing loss greatly affected those around me. The television was too loud all the time, which drove my wife Jane, nuts! Jane was also constantly repeating herself. This was not a good situation for her either. When it came to phone calls she would have to relay messages for me, as well as answer the phone for me. I felt isolated to some degree because I couldn’t do these things myself and not being able to hear well made it difficult to engage with people around me. I’m so happy I found Pindrop Hearing Centres. No other clinic listened to my needs, Tracy Todd was the only clinician that sat and took the time to listen to my unique hearing situation. Tracy has the compassion, understanding and patience to listen to people that live with hearing loss and the frustration their families go through. Pindrop has provided me with hearing aids that have greatly improved my hearing. They are comfortable too! My wife and I thank Tracy and Fiona of the Simcoe office for their professionalism, understanding and meeting my exact needs. Life is a lot more enjoyable now that I am able to hear. Since being fitted with my hearing aids I find conversation is easier, I can hear sounds that I couldn’t before and I feel like all of the effort I put into hearing has decreased drastically. I’m not as stressed when it comes to hearing and I feel much happier as I’m able to easily connect with people around me, especially my wife!
