Anthem United names builders for new community of Belmont

- JOSH SKAPIN

The builder group for Belmont has been unveiled, and the developer behind the planned south Calgary community will now operate under a new brand.

United Communities, which is behind master-planned communities such as Sage Hill, Nolan Hill, and Drake Landing, has announced it’s been rebranded Anthem United.

The move follows Anthem Properties’ purchase of United Communities in 2014.

Director of sales and marketing Steve LePan says the aim was to reflect the “coming together of two companies.”

“It was a natural fit to go with Anthem United,” he adds. “Respecting both companies’ pasts.”

United has been a real estate developer in Alberta for more than 80 years, and has developed upwards of 60 communities and sold more than 20,000 lots.

Anthem is a real estate development, management and investment company based in Vancouver.

In the Calgary area, Anthem United has three communities coming. D’Arcy in Okotoks is slated to break ground this spring, and Chelsea in Chestermere will follow closely, says the developer.

Belmont in south Calgary, which recently announced its formalized builder group, is planned to begin construction on show homes this autumn.

House hunters will be able to buy in Belmont through one of Trico Homes, Homes by Avi, Shane Homes Jayman Built, Cedarglen Homes, and Morrison Homes.

“The community is in good hands with them,” says LePan of Belmont’s builders. “They’re wellversed in everything Calgary but they’re all involved in south Calgary, as well, so they know the market going into it. We’re excited to have them on board.”

Belmont’s opening phase is planned for 170 single-family lots, 54 street towns, and four multifamily sites.

There will be three styles of single-family homes, including models with a double car front-attached garage, single car front-attached garage, and a segment with double car detached garages on a lane.

While prices on homes of all kinds in Belmont are still to be determined, affordability is a focus, says LePan.

“We’re looking at first-time buyers and young families ... we want to make it attainable for them to get into the market,” he says.

Belmont will span 116 hectares, south of Silverado and west of Macleod Trail, sit within 500 metres of a future CTrain station, and be home to a City of Calgary recreation centre.

LePan says the recreation centre will be an important amenity for the community. He says it’s expected to be built “sooner rather than later” as it will serve a number of existing communities.

“The rooftops are there to justify building it soon,” LePan says. “Building on that, and the fact it’s a family-friendly amenity, we want to go above and beyond in the playgrounds and parks that we build, so we can stretch that recreation theme throughout the community.”
