Police tape remained around a northwest home Sunday as Calgary police continued investigating a “violent assault” that left two men dead and two others in hospital.

About 5:15 a.m. Saturday, officers were called for reports of at least four people in medical distress in the 100 block of Panamount Common N.W.

Police found two men dead inside the home and two other men injured.

The two injured men were rushed to hospital, one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

Police said a woman, who was not injured, was also located inside the home.

Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, the second double slaying in Calgary in fewer than three weeks after two men were gunned down outside a southeast grocery store last month.

Insp. Tom Hanson said first responders were met with a grisly scene when they arrived at the Panorama Hills home.

“Upon arrival, two victims were discovered inside the residence deceased. Two other individuals were discovered suffering from fairly significant injuries and had to be transported to hospital,” he said.

“The best we can determine at this point is the individuals were all known to each other, so we know that it wasn’t a random act.”

Investigators believe that sometime early Saturday an altercation erupted into a violent assault among those inside the home.

Police said they’re not searching for suspects and, as of Sunday, no one had been charged.

“It’s a terrible thing, it’s upsetting for everybody to wake up to this, whether you’re a neighbour that’s directly next door to this residence or anybody in Calgary,” Hanson said.

“It’s not something we’re used to dealing with and it’s extremely upsetting for everybody, and we are sympathetic with that.

“We want to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible so we can reassure everybody that we’ve done everything that we can.”

Neighbours watched as members of the police forensics team, clad in blue jumpsuits, gathered evidence from the two-storey blue and grey home, surrounded by yellow police tape.

Several spots of dried blood dotted the sidewalk in front of the well-maintained residence.

Flamur Radoniqi lives next door to the crime scene and said his neighbours were friendly, quiet and hard-working people.

“It’s terrifying to see this,” he said.

“(They’re) just decent people. I can’t fathom what would have happened.”

The current condition of the two males in hospital is unknown and the victims have not been identified.

Police are expected to have an update Monday.
