Choose your own Vancouver muse adventure at curated theme hotel
VANCOUVER Sometimes you blow into a big city like Vancouver for a few days after a long absence or just want to check out what’s new, rather than the heading to the same old haunts you typically frequent.
Vancouver’s OPUS Hotel is offering to help — like a muse — so you can make the most out of your visit to the city. Pick your favourite from five personalities and you’ll get a “perfect day” itinerary along with a map. The itinerary lists restaurants, shops, cafes, spas and other attractions all curated by locals who have the inside scoop.
Playing off the playful muse theme, each room is decorated in a colour to suit a personality type you might identify with, or just want to try on. There’s daring and dramatic Dede, an L.A.-based actress; Mike the warm and flamboyant New York doctor, Susan a big shot in the fashion world (with her spoiled pup in tow); Pierre a food critic from Paris and Billy the badboy rocker from London.
For example, Billy’s itinerary suggests a few favourite Yaletown restaurants plus a guided tour and tasting at the Strathcona Beer Company.
Suggestions for Susan include taking in a yoga sesh YYOGA or getting sweaty at Lagree, ending her day by picking up a healthy take-away dish at Harvest Community Kitchen on her way back to the comforts of her periwinkle blue room.
Download the map and itinerary before you arrive or get them through the in-room iPads.
If you opt not to use the itinerary, that’s OK, too. You can stay in one place and amble down to the vibrant OPUS bar for a drink, where there might be some live music. Then slide over to La Pentola for Italian comfort food with a modern twist. You’ll still be at the centre of one of Van- couver’s coolest neighbourhoods without much effort.
